Technology these days gives people the ability to do things that they normally couldn’t. A perfect example of this is Podcasting. According to Wikipedia, a podcast is defined as a series of digital media files, either audio or video that is released episodicallu and downloaded through the web. That is a mouthful. I am sure many of my readers out there are like what the f*ck did he just say? Please allow me to speak English. Consider podcasts as a way of normal people to have their own radio/talk show. My good friends Bree and Jeff have suggested that I start up my podcast. I have thought about the idea and believe that I could do it. I just don’t know what I could honestly talk about for at least 10 minutes. I am also thinking that it would be boring for me to just talk. I would certainly need another host or something.
So in my effort to research what it actually involved with podcasting, I have basically nailed it down to four steps.
1.) Preparation: This involves getting the equipment all the way down to preparing a script for your podcast. At the current moment, I am still debating which microphone I would utilize. During the research process, I managed to learn a thing or two about how microphones work. I think once I have my mic selected, I would move on to establishing a format for my show. Once that is developed then I would prepare a flexible script for me to work from. After this is all said and done, I will go to the next step and actually record.
2.) Performance: Here is where the magic happens. I hope to deliver my thoughts, opinions, messages to my audience. At first I may perform solo style and pull in guest hosts when they become available. I am thinking it would be funny as hell to have Mr. Davis and Jeff do segments and become integral parts of the show. As mentioned earlier, I would aim for at least 10 minutes for the length of my podcasts. If I manage to go over the 10 minutes then so be it.
3.) Production: This will probably be the most time consuming part of the whole process. At this point I have the podcast recorded and will need to put it all together. I will ultimately end up using Garage Band to put the podcast together. In the production stage, I can include music and sound effects and more! My podcast will go as far as my creativity will take it.
So if you happen to have some experience with podcasting please let me know! I am also curious to know about any books that I could purchase to help this beginner out. Basically if you have any knowledge about podcasting that you would like to share please leave me a comment!
