Howl at the Moon

I have to start off by saying congratulations to Breelee and Jeff on their engagement.  I hope that the two of you remain happy for a long time.  Even when your genitalia gets old and wrinkly.  Oh man that was a graphic thought.  So let me go ahead and continue blogging.  On Saturday I was out  celebrating what will be known as Breelee’s last night of freedom.  We were drinking and singing our butts off.  For those that have never been to Howl at the Moon, you should definitely go at least once in your lifetime.  Especially if you have never been to a dueling pianos bar.  They are quite entertaining.  Well at Howl at the Moon you can pay money to have phrases written on the mirrors.  Thanks to Bree I was able to get advertising for my website.  I also realized that I have gained another fan.  So it brings me great pleasure to introduce my latest fan, Rachie D.  She has been a fan of mine since my Weather Report days on MySpace.  I hope that Rachie will continue to show her support now that she knows about my blog.  Also Bree if you could pry Tracy away from sucking fat toes maybe you could get her to read it as well.

AIM

35a7721c-0033-48e0-a405-0625cac3ab62Remember when AOL Instant Messenging (AIM) was the sh*t?  Because I certainly do.  I can tell you I would spend countless hours in high school and college on that thing.  AIM was popular before Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.  I loved the fact that it was instant gratification.  The only catch is that they would have to be at their computer as well.  With it being so addicting this was never an issue.  Hell I remember many times where I should have been studying.  But instead I am just typing away to my friends on my buddy list.  You were not cool if you didn’t have an AIM screen name.  Instead of exchanging phone numbers people would give out their screen names.  AIM was so addicting that I would jokingly have conversations to people in the next room over.  Sometimes, I would have them with people sitting at their computer right next to me.

I miss the days of adding people to my buddy lists, posting away messages, and reading other people’s away messages.  Ahhh those were the days.  I remember the feeling of joy coming back from class and noticing that I had some messages to read.  Hell I even used it to score dates.  Hey when you have a hard time asking ladies face to face it makes it a hell of a lot easier.  Trust me.  Consider it a step up from passing notes that say do you like me circle yes or no!  As AIM progressed and became more popular you could do crazy things like send pictures or files.  Which opened the door to even more interesting conversations.  They also had a feature that allowed you to just talk into a microphone and you can hear there voice.  Hey this was before they perfected web cams.

It brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear people say that they still use AIM.  I think with each passing year it becomes a thing of the past.  But I will always remember the joy and pleasure AIM’ing brought to me.  If I am not alone then please share your fond memories of AOL Instant Messenger.  Perhaps we could start a movement to bring it back!  How cool would that be?

Mediocre Time

tom and danSo my friends Bree and Jeff turned me on to this podcast called a Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan.  After listening to several of their podcasts they thought I could do one myself.  Which is what led to me posting about podcasting last week.  Since I am in the research stage of podcasting, I thought I would listen to a few shows.  These guys are pretty funny.  If you like ramblings about topics (like I do) then you should certainly check them out.  But anyways, I thought it would be cool to send them an email and ask them for some tips and what not.  Keep in mind I wasn’t expecting a response at all.  It was about 10 or so this morning, I get a call from my buddy Jeff.  I didn’t answer but noticed he left a voice mail.  After a few hours elapsed, I decided to see what the hell he wanted.  He was all giddy in his voice mail and was saying that Tom and Dan had responded to my email on their show.

So I listen to the podcast and sure enough Tom and Dan were blasting me on their show.  Unlike most people I do have a sense of humor and loved the rants they had from my email.  I also wanted to thank them for plugging my blog.  Tom and Dan were cool enough to give me some tips to podcasting as well.  You have gained another listener.  Which should help with improving your black audience! Ha-ha.

Podcasting

podcasting-bigTechnology these days gives people the ability to do things that they normally couldn’t.  A perfect example of this is Podcasting.  According to Wikipedia, a podcast is defined as a series of digital media files, either audio or video that is released episodicallu and downloaded through the web.  That is a mouthful.  I am sure many of my readers out there are like what the f*ck did he just say?  Please allow me to speak English.  Consider podcasts as a way of normal people to have their own radio/talk show.  My good friends Bree and Jeff have suggested that I start up my podcast.  I have thought about the idea and believe that I could do it.  I just don’t know what I could honestly talk about for at least 10 minutes.  I am also thinking that it would be boring for me to just talk.  I would certainly need another host or something.

So in my effort to research what it actually involved with podcasting, I have basically nailed it down to four steps.

1.) Preparation:  This involves getting the equipment all the way down to preparing a script for your podcast.  At the current moment, I am still debating which microphone I would utilize.  During the research process, I managed to learn a thing or two about how microphones work.  I think once I have my mic selected, I would move on to establishing a format for my show.  Once that is developed then I would prepare a flexible script for me to work from.  After this is all said and done, I will go to the next step and actually record.

2.) Performance:  Here is where the magic happens.  I hope to deliver my thoughts, opinions, messages to my audience.  At first I may perform solo style and pull in guest hosts when they become available.  I am thinking it would be funny as hell to have Mr. Davis and Jeff do segments and become integral parts of the show. As mentioned earlier, I would aim for at least 10 minutes for the length of my podcasts.  If I manage to go over the 10 minutes then so be it.

3.) Production:  This will probably be the most time consuming part of the whole process.  At this point I have the podcast recorded and will need to put it all together.  I will ultimately end up using Garage Band to put the podcast together.  In the production stage, I can include music and sound effects and more!  My podcast will go as far as my creativity will take it.

So if you happen to have some experience with podcasting please let me know!  I am also curious to know about any books that I could purchase to help this beginner out.  Basically if you have any knowledge about podcasting that you would like to share please leave me a comment!
